Welcome to Parkview Christian School

Parkview Christian School is committed to providing excellence in academics witha Bible-based view. Student instruction focuses on the basics: language arts, science, math and social studies. Along with basic instruction, we also offer many other courses to help our students become well rounded individuals.

At Parkview, we believe that character development is the foundation of and the means to a student discovering his/her potential. Students must be nurtured for them to engage in moral decision-making and Godly conduct. When academic and co-curricular achievement becomes a means of realizing their dreams, students become serious, and even passionate about school.

We would like to introduce the superintendent, Mr. Zach Kassebaum.

Parkview Christian School didn’t have to search very far to find its next superintendent. In fact, he has been a weekly visitor to the building for quite some time.

Recently, the school unanimously appointed Zach Kassebaum to succeed Larry Frost as superintendent following his resignation at the end of the 2008-2009 school year. Frost has served as the PCS superintendent the past three years.

Kassebaum is currently the Vice Principal at Waverly High School where he’s served the past six years and was recently named the 2008-2009 Region I Assistant Principal of the year. Ironically, he’s been a member of Calvary Community Church for the past nine years. Parkview Christian is located on the campus of Calvary, located at 4400 N. 1 st Street, and the school was founded by Pastor Carl Godwin in 1980.

It wasn’t until sometime in March that Kassebaum learned of the school’s opening, and had given serious thought to apply.

“The position at Parkview intrigued me,” Kassebaum said. “What an amazing opportunity to combine my passion for kids and education with my passion for serving God. I envision great things for Parkview in the years to come.”

Parkview School Board President Mike Mertens said Kassebaum will bring several key qualities to the school.

“We’re really excited the about the future of Parkview Christian School with the addition of Zach Kassebaum, ” Mertens said of his hiring. “Zach brings a renewed enthusiasm for affordable Christian education. His knowledge, experience, personality and desire to serve the Lord will lead us toward our desire for growing children to their God-given potential. His leadership will grow our academics, extra curricular activities and the spiritual desires of the students. Because of the addition of Zach, our future looks really bright.

Kassebaum is a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he earned a Bachelors of Science in Education, and a Masters in Educational Administration. He is currently finishing a Doctorate degree in Education Administration.

In addition to administrative experience, Kassebaum has teaching and coaching experience at Waverly. He has also chaired and coordinated various projects such as Communications Chair in Language Arts, Instructor and Coordinator for English as a Secondary Language, and Team Leader of behavioral intervention plans.

Mertens said the School Board wanted to move quickly in the search process to identify potential candidates and offer the position before contracts were finalized for next year. The school formed a selection committee led by Jim and Barb Ballard, owners of James Arthur Vineyards and parents of two PCS high school students.

Jim Ballard said the committee received a number of applicants and narrowed the list down to two before selecting Kassebaum. It was encouraging to have so many talented applicants apply for the position, but after careful consideration, prayer and meeting with Zach, we think Parkview Christian has made a great hire,” said Ballard.

“I am impressed by the Parkview family and excited about the opportunity to work together to establish a commitment to excellence,” Kassebaum said. The next step for Kassebaum will be the transition from Waverly, where he’s under contract through June 30.

Since the interview process, Kassebaum got his first chance to become acclimated to parents and friends of the school by attending Parkview’s Spring Auction on April 24, accompanied by his wife Kami and two daughters MaKaylee and Mattea.

Mertens expressed his gratitude to Larry Frost and his wife Carol. In addition to serving as Superintendent, the Frosts coached football and track and taught classes.

“The Frosts stepped in when we needed someone to lead our school. They led Parkview to some of our best sports finishes in the history of the school. Their experience and knowledge of school systems will be missed. We wish them the best wherever the Lord takes them,” said Mertens.
